The Language of Connection (The Seven Tools)

1. Know Thyself

Uncovering the inner life of our hearts.

2. Own What is Yours, Release the Rest

Hope for a better life rests in our choices, not others'.

3. Listening & Speaking for Intimacy

Learn to listen to and speak from the heart.

4. Forgiveness & Building Trust

Forgiveness sets us free to connect deeply.

5. The Art of the Request

Honest and vulnerable requests foster connection.

6. "No" is Your Friend

Learning to say no and hear no from others

7. You Can Do Whatever You Want

You have more power than you may realize.

Revive: to become active and flourishing again.

One key to fostering healthy, flourishing relationships is learning to deeply connect on a heart level with one another. The main thing standing in our way: our fear. Our fear of rejection, missing out on that connection, leads us to either fight the threat to that connection, or run away from it, or both!

The above tools will help you to overcome your fear and foster the meaningful connection you so deeply long for. It's not an easy journey, but it's worth taking!

Steve Childs, MDiv

For over two decades now I have been helping to create spaces for couples and individuals to find healing and hope in their relationships, whether romantic relationships, friendships, or family relationships. This work has primarily happened in Christian faith community settings, though the tools needed to build healthy relationships are the same for everyone, no matter your background.

In 2018 I decided to step out and start Revival Counseling with the hope of making these kinds of spaces available to more people, like you! I take great joy in seeing people take courageous steps to keep relationships going strong through the ups and downs that inevitably come.

I grew up in Sacramento and came to the Bay Area to study Cognitive Science and Philosophy as an undergrad at UC Berkeley and went on to earn my Masters of Divinity at the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley as well. I've worked in faith communities in Berkeley, Oakland and Vancouver, BC.

I am currently an ordained pastor with Tribe Church in Oakland, CA.
